With a rather explicit name, Recover My Files is aimed to retrieve lost files. This way, it supports finding a great number of more than 200 file types, which could have been lost due to disk formatting, hard disk errors, accidental or intentional deletion or even system reinstallation. In addition to standard hard disk drives, you can also use the program to search for lost files on external storage devices, such as memory cards, USB hard disks and pendrives.
The program has an intuitive interface. Each recovery session starts with a wizard, which will let you gradually provide the program with the information needed for successful recovery. Two modes are supported: Recover Files and Recover a Drive. You can also specify a location, such as a folder or an external drive.
On the basis of the information given, the tool will scan the specified locations and provide you with a report of all the found files. I have to say that this is the friendliest way of presenting the results that I have seen if we compare it with similar applications. The found files will be arranged in a tree structure and you can use such ordering criteria as containing folders, file type, date and status. Similarly, the program allows two types of views: File List and Gallery. By just selecting one of the files, you can preview them to check their status.
Having been tested, the program successfully managed to recover some files I had deleted long ago. Unfortunately, the main limitation of this program is that it cannot be used to recover damaged boot partitions because it can only be run from within the system.
